Battman’s Football Pools

2023-24 Regular Season Rules

ALL PICKS (usually) DUE BY SATURDAY MORNING

www.simplysportsware.com

Entry fee is $100.  Every Tuesday (starting with W-1 of the NFL season and concluding with W-18 of the NFL season), point spreads for the week’s football games (pro and college) will be posted at this site.  You must post your picks of any 10 games (your choice, pro and/or college) by FIVE MINUTES before the first (usually Saturday) kickoff of the week; make one of the games your "key game," worth 2 points.  Point spreads will be used in each game to determine the winners; half points on all games prevent ties (a commissioner nightmare).  Almost all weeks will be played with Saturday through Monday football games.

Other (important) rules:

     1)  Only games on the site may be picked.  All pro games (except Thursday) will be listed as well as many (but not all) college games; if I am not listing your favorite team, you can try and lobby me for future inclusion, but spare me the goliaths vs patsies games.

     2)  Designate one of your games as your "Key Game" (for a two point win).

     3)  The Thanksgiving week deadline is Thursday morning.  There may be other deadline exceptions (e.g., important Bowl games on a Friday), as well; pay attention!

     4)  Overall winners will include the top six places (2023: 1st: $700; 2nd: $500; 3rd: $350; 4th: $250; 5th: $150; 6th: $102; 7th: TBA; ties split).  All money in gets paid out except for the website posting fee; NO free entries.

     5)  The person who scores the most wins each week wins $120; ties split the pot..  (Cancelled or forfeited games will count as a half of a win.)

     6)  The Overall winner will be determined by the compilation of ALL of your weeks’ wins.

     7) New 2023 Rule: If you do not enter your picks by the deadline, you will get ZERO wins that week.

     8)  Your money ($100) must be sent to the commissioner prior to the start of the 2nd week (Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, check); otherwise, you can still send in picks, but you will not be eligible to win any money; Your entry will be deleted if not paid by the start of Week #2.

College Bowl Sheet, 2024-25

The Bowl rules are similar to the regular season rules, except that you pick more games:

        1)  The cost is $20/entry.  Enter as often as you like; however, you may not send picks in that mirror a second entree of yours; while that does not guarantee winning money, it simply goes against the grain of the intent and integrity of the pool.

        2)  Picks are due no later than Saturday, December 14, 5:00 p.m. PST.  Payment must be arranged by that day.

        3) You must send ME your picks; all will be put on an Excel spreadsheet.  Please send them to me in the same order that I send them out.

        4) There are 40 games, starting on December 14 and ending on January 20 (we will NOT include seven of the post-season games; enter the post-season pool if you'd like).

        5) You need to send me SIXTEEN (16) winners:  THIRTEEN (13) single games; TWO (2) 2x games (count as two points each ) and ONE 3x game (counts as three points).

        6) WHILE NO ONE HAS TO PICK the Playoff Championship game, everyone should, right?  You DO NOT pick the winner yet, but you do have to designate it as one of your picks (single, double or triple).  In that game, the spread will be released a few days before the game is played; all those who chose that game then need to pick a winner.  When you send in your picks, just list it last as "Championship game" (2x or 3x if either appropriate).

        7) If a game is cancelled for whatever reason, you will have an opportunity to select another game; if that is not possible (or you fail to send in another winner), you will not get a win.  If one team drops out and is replaced by another team, everyone in the pool will have an opportunity to get off or on that game after the new opponent and spread is announced.

        8) You need to send me money (check or cash) or by Venmo or PayPal.

        9)  All money is paid out to winners; last year we had 61 entries, and we paid to the top 5 (vinnym won $500 last year as the sole winner); we pay $20 to the last place finisher (Toilet Bowl).

       10)  There IS a tie-breaker system:  If owners tie with the same number of points, the tie-break goes to the owner with the most games won (e.g., someone with 16 points with no 2x or 3x winners will win more games than someone else who gets 16 points using a 2x or 3x win).  Otherwise, ties split the money.

Unfortunately, The Dave Maloney Memorial Pool is postponed until further notice.  I apologize for the inconvenience, disappointment and heartache.

Silver Hawk Memorial Post-Season Football Extravaganza

This is a combined NCAA-NFL Post-Season Pool:  24 games (with spreads), 32 points, $20 entry fee; enter more than once if you so desire; all money will be distributed to winners (no free entries).  We'll have payoffs for those who win the college side and the pro side – with most of the money reserved for the top Overall winner(s).

     The College Playoffs begin on December 20 and end on January 20 (11 games);

The NFL Playoffs begin on January 11 and end on February 9 (13 games).

Correct picks for individual games are worth one (1) point each, except for the final games (College Championship & Super Bowl), which will count for two (2) points each.  Your early predictions for the winners of those two games (no spreads) will be worth three (3) points.

Obviously, you do not need to keep track of these dates because I will send spreads out to all who are in the pool.

     1)  Spreads will be sent out on Monday, December 16 for the first round of the College Playoffs; picks for all four (4) first-round games are due by kick-off on Friday, December 20.  Also due is YOUR pick as to who will win (no spread) the College Championship game (worth 3 points).

Your $20 per entry also will be due by that first Friday KO.

     2)  Spreads will be sent out on Monday, December 23 for the second round of the College Playoffs; picks for all four (4) of the second-round games are due by kick-off on Tuesday, December 31 (one game is that night; other three on New Year's Day).

     3)  Spreads will be sent out on Friday, January 3 for the third round of the College Playoffs; picks for both games are due by kick-off on Thursday, January 9 (Orange Bowl); the other game (Cotton Bowl) is played on Friday.

     4)  Spreads will be sent out Tuesday, January 7 for the first round of the NFL Playoffs; picks for all six (6) games are due by the first kick-off on Saturday, January 11 (two games on Saturday; three on Sunday; one on Monday).  Also due is YOUR pick (no spread) as to who will win the Super Bowl (worth 3 points).

     5) Spreads will be sent out Tuesday, January 14 for BOTH the second round of the NFL Playoffs AND for the National College Championship Game (Atlanta).  All NFL picks are due by kick-off on Saturday, January 18 (two games on Saturday; two on Sunday).  Your College Championship pick is due by kick-off on Monday, January 20 (worth two points).

     6)  Spreads will be sent out Monday, January 20 for the third round (Championship Week) of the NFL Playoffs; picks for both games are due by the first kick-off on Sunday, January 26 (both games are on Sunday).

     7)  The spread for the Super Bowl game will be sent out on Tuesday, January 28; your pick is due by kick-off on Super Bowl Sunday, February 9 (worth 2 points).

ALL money will be given out as prize money.  Depending on the number of entries, we'll figure out the pay-outs and announce them prior to the first game on December 20.  No tiebreakers.

I know some of you (me!) will have an awful start and not feel like sending in your later picks.  I, of course, would prefer all to participate right up to the bitter end.  And don't give up at least until you blow your NFL Wild Card Weekend!
